Severn Trent Water Reopens Environmental Grants Scheme for Farmers

The Severn Trent Environmental Protection Scheme (STEPS) supports farmers in the Midlands to make improvements to their farm management and infrastructure, reducing the risk of pollution from their land into local water courses.

Through the scheme, Severn Trent Water is keen to work with farmers and land managers to reduce risks to drinking water. By working in partnership with farmers the provider aims to:

  • improve drinking water quality;
  • reduce the need for additional water treatment; and
  • provide wider environmental benefits in local catchments.

The scheme offers grants of up to £5,000 per year, per farm for infrastructure improvement and land management changes in Severn Trent Water target areas. The fixed grant amount represents an estimated 50% of the total cost of the capital and land management items that will be funded.

Grants are available to farmers and landowners/managers who farm within a Severn Trent Water drinking water abstraction catchment and/or farm within one of Severn Trent’s ‘priority source protection zones’ (SPZs).

The window for grant applications for 2018-19 is now open and closes on 16 March 2018.
