Timber Business Investment Scheme - 2017 Round Open

The Timber Business Investment Scheme (TBIS) is designed to help forest owners with investments that will enhance forestry potential or relate to the mobilising (harvesting), processing and adding value to forest products.

The grant can be used to improve and develop processing facilities or contracting facilities, eg to erect new buildings; refurbish old premises and to buy eligible new or second hand equipment (for second hand equipment certain conditions apply).

Investments supported by the scheme must be related to improvements in value in forests, for example by enabling woodland management activities, timber harvesting and/or in-forest or small-scale timber processing.

The maximum grant threshold per enterprise for any individual investment project is £5 million. The minimum grant threshold per enterprise for any individual investment project is £2,400.The maximum grant rate for any individual investment project are as follows:

  • SMEs – for mobilising (harvesting), processing and adding value to forest products - up to 40% of the total investment cost regardless of location.
  • All sizes of enterprise – for enhancements of forestry potential only - up to 40% of the total investment cost regardless of location.

Support under this scheme covers tangible and/or intangible investments that will enhance forestry potential or relate to the mobilising (harvesting), processing and adding value to forest products. Tangible investments mean capital expenditure and associated installation costs. Capital expenditure in this context includes investments that are fixed, physical or non-consumable such as buildings, machinery and equipment.

The scheme is open to private forest owners, local authorities, certain other public sector forest owners and small/medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or forestry contractors in Wales that are engaged in forest planting and management activities, timber harvesting and/or timber processing.

The deadline for receipt of Expressions of Interest is 28 April 2017.
